Our vision

The Global Partnership on Forest Landscape Restoration (GPFLR) is a worldwide network that unites influential governments, major UN and non-governmental organisations, companies and individuals with a common cause.  We believe that ideas transform landscapes.

There is no magic, one-size-fits-all blueprint for restoring forests and degraded lands.  Simply planting trees and crossing fingers doesn’t work.  Solutions are always unique to their setting.  A restored forest landscape might, for example, consist of areas that are protected for watershed management and nature conservation, linked by regenerated native forests along rivers and streams, and complemented by well-managed commercial plantations and the planting of on-farm trees and hedgerows.

Benefits grow with the trees.  These include clean water, new crops, wildlife habitats, timber and fuelwood production, and tourism opportunities. Restored forests and lands also reduce the vulnerability of communities to the effects of climate change and provides them with new livelihoods.   At the same time, the carbon dioxide absorbed through restoration helps to alleviate climate change.
